If you are looking for more in your degree, the Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours) provides the same breadth of opportunities as the Bachelor of Science, with the addition of Honours Pathway Options that are designed to extend your understanding and introduce you to concepts that are more advanced than standard course activities. The Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours) can also lead straight to a PhD.
The fourth (Honours) year allows you to explore research possibilities in your area of interest and prepares you for postgraduate research, or your professional career. You will develop an advanced understanding of the research principles, methods and theoretical concepts of your discipline, and design and implement a research project which explores solutions to complex problems.
You can combine areas of study such as biology and physics, or mathematics and chemistry, or even extend your interests outside science to areas such as languages or management. You will quickly build important relationships with your lecturers—often world-leading experts in their field— and get more out of your classes thanks to our student to academic ratio of 10:1.
You will conduct your experiments in our new state-of-the-art laboratories and science teaching facilities, and you will never be too far away from advice at the various science drop-in centres where you can sit in on extra tutorials, spend time one-on-one getting help from a later-year student or consult your lecturers.
In your time at ANU you will create networks that will stay with you for life. Through study, shared experiences and the pursuit of knowledge, you will develop strong relationships with Australian and international researchers, your mentors and with fellow students. These relationships can give you the edge in your future career.
