Book Launch: Chemistry in the Marketplace

Chemicals are everywhere. Many are natural and safe, others synthetic and dangerous. Or is it the other way around? Walking through the supermarket, you might ask yourself:

Should I be eating organic food?
Is that anti-wrinkle cream a gimmick?
Is it worth buying BPA-free plastics?

To help you navigate this murky world of chemicals for the consumer, we are inviting you to the launch of Chemistry in the Marketplace, a fascinating and at times amusing insight into the real world uses of chemicals.

Prof. Joan Leach from the National Centre for Public Awareness of Science at the ANU will be your emcee and Chemistry in the Marketplace authors Professor Ben Selinger and Associate Professor Russell Barrow along with a panel of experts will be on hand to answer your questions about chemistry in the real world. They may even save you some money! There is also rumoured to be a demonstration or two.

Panel discussion followed by drinks and light refreshments

Books will be available at a 20% discount ($56 on the night – RRP is $69.95) and will have cash and credit card facilities

RSVP by 21 June
