Student ambassadors

The Science Student Ambassador program is an exclusive opportunity for outstanding and outgoing students to become actively involved in the promotion of science at ANU. In addition to accessing exclusive networking opportunities and gaining valuable professional experience and training, the role of the Student Ambassador is a paid casual position within science at ANU.

About the role

The Science Student Ambassador program is an opportunity for outstanding and outgoing science students to become involved in promoting science at ANU. This is a paid casual position and successful applicants will be tasked with assisting the ANU Science Marketing and Communications team at recruitment events, alumni events, student and school tours and marketing campaigns. Student Ambassadors may also be profiled, photographed and filmed for ANU Science promotional activities and may be required to assist with general office and administrative duties.

Student Ambassadors will be required to work in the lead up to and on ANU Open Day 2017 (26 August 2017).

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • be eligible to work in Australia with evidence of a valid working visa
  • be enrolled in an undergraduate science program at ANU (double degrees allowed)
  • have successfully completed the first semester of study
  • hold a current Australian drivers licence
  • commit to the program for at least an entire academic year.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current enrolment as an ANU student in a science program with an excellent academic record.
  2. A willingness to travel and work non-standard hours as required, along with a current Australian drivers licence.
  3. A commitment to promoting ANU as an institution of academic excellence.
  4. Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement, including an ability to refer enquiries to senior staff as appropriate.
  5. Sound understanding of administrative processes, including a high level of attention to detail and an ability to organise and manage tasks to completion.
  6. Demonstrated computer skills with experience using the Microsoft Office suite. 
  7. High level of customer service skills and ability to work effectively with a range of people.
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to speak in public.
  9. A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a University context.
